Termites can cause TENS of THOUSANDS of dollars in damage in a short period of time!

In our Northeast region of the United States, Subterranean Termites are quite common. Living within the soil, they seek wood as their food source. They are unique in that they break down and digest cellulose, which is a major sugar in wood. Prompt treatment is essential as Termites have the potential to eat your home to an UNSAFE level!

Although more, there are especially 2 types of Termites to take note:

Worker Termite-

Almost uniformly white or cream in appearance, this is the damaging caste of the termite colony. They contain a microbe in their intestines that allows them to ingest cellulose (wood) as a nutrient. Termites must physically receive this attribute from the Termite queen of the colony. They then feed on wood, and, being blind, Termites cannot tell your house from a tree.

Reproductive Termite-

The color of this Termite is usually black but may be a slightly lighter brown. This Termite has four wings, all of the same length, which helps to distinguish it from a flying ant whose underwings are shorter than those on top. This Termite has a primary function of finding new sites, mating, and beginning new colonies. These Termites are essentially future Termite kings and queens.

Termites are a social species that has three caste levels: Reproductives, Workers, and Soldiers. This means they are an organized species and seek to eat your home to further their colony.

What are the signs of termites?

1.) Shelter tubes running down walls. Termites travel within them.

2.) A hollow sound when you tap on the wall.

3.) Small pinholes, where termites have chewed their way through.
